Policy Fellow
Washington, DC
Jamie Vernon is a PhD-trained molecular biologist with more than a decade of experience conducting discovery research and project management, author of multiple scientific publications and a biotechnology patent.

He transitioned to the energy sector nearly 5 years ago, first as a freelance science writer, and subsequently as a AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy (Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy), where he helped design and launch the first National Clean Energy Business Plan Competition, spearheaded a consumer energy usage data access initiative, and helped leverage open data to spur entrepreneurship.

He also served as 2012-2013 Co-chair of the Digital Communications Team for the U.S. Global Change Research Program's "Climate Communication and Education Interagency Working Group."

As an ORISE Fellow at DOE, he currently runs ROI analyses of EERE’s R&D portfolio and helps communicate EERE's impacts to various stakeholders including Congress and the White House.

Jamie is co-founder of ScienceOnline DC, a ScienceOnline satellite group, and Potential Energy DC, a startup accelerator for the energy industry.

This is his third attendance at the ScienceOnline conference. Jamie is originally from North Carolina and graduated from NCSU, so this conference is extra special to him.
